HepCURE is a non-profit committed to eliminating Hepatitis C in Canada. We work with community based organizations and pharmacies across Ontario and offer the most comprehensive screening and treatment program for marginalized people living with Hepatitis C.

Position Summary

The Phlebotomist will perform Point-of-Care (POC) tests and draw blood for patients requiring Hep C testing and treatment. The right individual must be comfortable working with marginalized people, must be flexible with work hours – with their schedule, and anticipate being asked to (work as early as 8:00 a.m. or as late as 5:00 p.m.) This person must also have their own vehicle, a full G license, and be willing to travel throughout Ottawa and surrounding areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet and request required information from program participants, explain the specimen collection process, and perform specimen collection;
  • Perform phlebotomies and or dried blood spot collection, connect/run centrifuge machine and label specimen collections and lab forms;
  • Work with the Nurse Practitioner/Clinician to determine if blood work is required and determine next steps in the treatment journey;
  • Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results;
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing;
  • Deliver specimens to Laboratories;
  • Other duties as required.


  • Must have at least 1-2 years of experience working in a fast-paced lab technician role;
  • Must be able to draw blood from clients who have little to no veins, “difficult stick” veins, collapsing and or constricting veins and the sort.


  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent;
  • Must have a full G license and access to a vehicle.


  • Phlebotomy experience;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Good technology skills and experience working with iPads;
  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality;
  • Comfort level with marginalized people as well as sensitivity to race, mental health, and sexual orientation;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work;
  • Comfortable working as part of a team, as well as independently.
